In honor of VH1’s third annual Hip Hop Honors (which taped this past weekend), New York is hosting the first ever Hip Hop Week from October 12-17. From hip hop tours through the boroughs to hip hop exhibits at Brooklyn Museum of Art, there’ll be something for everyone to check out.
In addition, LiveNDirect will be promoting the true hip hop spirit with the meeting of great MCs- old and new school- rocking the stage on October 15th @ 9PM. Talib Kweli, Nice N Smooth, Lupe Fiasco, Pharoah Monch, DJ Scratch, and DJ Eclipse will be doing their thing @ the Nokia Theatre. For more information or to buy tickets (at $35, that’s not too shabby for some great music), go to http://www.nokiatheatrenyc.com/showdetail.php?id=2915″
As for the show itself (which was taped last Saturday but wont air until next Tuesday), I’ve heard nothing but great things about it. I’m also very hyped because MC Lyte (whom I consider to be the female GOAT) and Rakim (the greatest male MC to ever grace a mic) were honored. While I can’t wait too see it, I’ll have to tide myself over with one of my favorite hip hop songs:
MC Lyte- Poor Georgie (which, coincidentally, features a cameo from another soon-to-be-legendary female MC, Lauryn Hill)
