Somebody Was Listening: SAG Awards

#SagsSoBlack

Round of applause to Idris Elba for scooping not one, but two SAG Awards for his roles in Luther, and Beasts of No Nation; For Queen Latifah’s role in Bessie; For Uzo Aduba’s role in Orange is the New Black; and for Viola Davis in How to Get Away With Murder. All are favorites of mine, and I’m glad that these talented Black artists are getting their shine.

Taraji Kills It For Elle Magazine

It was very important to me that she not be sassy and neck-rollin’ and eye-bulgin’ and attitude all the time. – Taraji P. Henson on why her character Cookie Lyon is not a caricature.

Taraji P. Henson is killing the game right now. Straight off the heels of her Golden Globes win, she graces the February 2016 cover of Elle in what would seem to be a serendipitous  landmark. She, along with Viola Davis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Olivia Wilde, and Priyanka Chopra made the cover for Elle’s annual Women in TV Issue. Nice to see women of color nicely represented in 3 out of the 5 covers.

Over The Line: Viola Davis is Everything

I’m gonna ignore the hate and celebrate this woman to the fullest because she honored so many women of color in her speech but stepping up to the plate and using her power to make a statement. And making history while she was at it, becoming the first Black woman to win the honor of Outstanding Actress in a Drama. She said what she said, and it needed to be said. And that is that.
