Trend: Mint

Out of all the looks on the red carpet for the People’s Choice Awards, Meagan Good’s mint gown resonated with me the most. Because in a season that is so heavy with deep, rich wines, browns, and black, its a refreshing jolt to see a bit of icy green. I posted more minty inspiration on Instagram,

and even found this cute little bag:

Ah, mint. How refreshing.

Lavish Style: Fashionable Sneaks

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I run from time to time and even occasionally hop in a race or two. And while Newton’s and Nikes are my preferred sneakers of choice, I love a cute, casual pair to wear in the daytime. Check out this video on make the most out of a fashionable pair of sneakers.

Trend: Alicia Keys Rocks A Septum Ring

I have been contemplating a septum ring for some time. My lifestyle seems to fit into the look: bohemian, urban gardener, life seeker. But then I come back down to reality and wonder if I’m down for the permanence or the pain. This past weekend

Alicia Keys was spotted with a new nasal piercing by Meadow Lark Jewelry, and I couldn’t help but start to feel envious again. Alicia, Zoe Kravitz, and Kelis wear it to such perfect effect; maybe I’ll give a faux septum a try this weekend. Get inspired by a few sisters beauties rocking the septum ring look.

Black And White Rocks

I found it so peculiar that so many American’s got so upset over the airing of Black Girls Rock show, given that its been around for about 10 years. Now that Michelle Obama got on board to present, it’s goal-promoting positive and uplifting images and messages to impressionable Black girls- has somehow become a racist program, created to further divide Americans. I found it laughable that a few critics even went to far as to proclaim “White Girls Rock!”
As if the general population has not heard that sentiment since the beginning of colonialism.
Why can’t Black women be allowed to shine and express their beauty and happiness in their own right after centuries of being told the opposite?
That said, the ladies rocked it out in an awesome array of Black and white styles:
So much so that it inspired me to pick out a few black and white pieces for my spring outings.
Black Jumpsuit, $73, White Jumpsuit, $81, Bandeau Dress with Lace Detail, $109, White Strapless Lace Dress, $135, Striped Skirt, $45

The Hotness: April Shoe Lust

Not only am I now addicted to Instagram, but the social media app has me has me shopping all over the internets. One shop that I can’t stop gawking at is Lola Shoetique, a Los Angeles-based shoe store offering some really hot styles with a nod to their designer counterparts. I’m not above picking up a few wallet-friendly, on-trend shoes for a few nights out. YOLO.

Lavish Trends: Kitty Power

I love this campy Kenzo tiger sweater Beyonce posted the other day. It’s lighthearted, fun, and dressed up just right with a midid skirt and nude pumps to make it ‘adult’. Because I hate dressing like a kid. I just might get one and dress it up for a date night.
Any of the selections from the Nylon shop will do. Like this $80 one:
Or This is a cute $28 option

Lavish Trends: Rihanna’s Ice Cream Earrings – For Grown Women

I love these cute ice cream earrings on Rihanna, but for women of a certain age, it comes off as a little tacky. There is nothing worse than trying to look too ‘trendy’ once you pass 30 with children, in my opinion. So how do you rock a pair of playful earrings without looking like a teenie-bopper? Keep it small.

A few months ago I picked up a pair of penny earrings at a little shop on Long Island. I get commented on them all the time. From far away they look like slightly larger studs, but upon closer inspection, you can see all of the details. Here are some cute options for us grown women who want to keep it fun.

Shorts Story: Jennifer Lopez in Sachin + Babi printed shorts

These winter blues where the snow seems to just keep coming, day after day, have me planning a warm weatehr getaway, stat. Jennifer Lopez got me inspired in these short she wore  a few days ago for Pitbull’s  FIFA World Cup video shoot. I love loads of colors and I love patterns even more, so both shorts are on my shortlist.
Here are some shorts inspiration for the colorful at heart.
Center: Floral shorts, $250, Sachin + Babi; Top Left: Jo No Fui printed shorts, $544;
Top Right: P.A.R.O.S.H. printed shorts, $112; Bottom Right: Stella Jean Printed Shorts, $335; Bottom Left: Manish Arora Printed Shorts, $253

Lavish Trends: Plaid Fad

I’ve watched the rise and fall and rise again of the plaid trend with a pensive eye; for me, the look conjures my first few visits to London as a child, Kurt Kobain, all my my teenaged years filled with angst, and marching in the high school band for the St. Patty’s day parade. So no happy style moments for me. I liked how Karen, over at Where Did You Get That wore hers, but I am not bold enough to do it from head to toe.
Karen, of Where Did You Get That
Perhaps a jacket (like Beyonce’s, but maybe not a $600 Karl Lagerfeld) or a clutch is all I need to pull it off. Here are some plaid pieces to try out:
THIS jacket is everything, $100, Nasty Gal
Plaid Shirt, $20, JC Penney
Watch, $10, Macy’s
Scarf, $13, Forever21

7 Stylish Geometric Pieces to Wear

I loved First Lady Michelle Obama’s Duro Olowu print blouse that she wore on a recent trip to South Africa. Never one to shy away from fashion risks, she plays off the geometric trend by downplaying the other elements of her outfit. You can do the same by focusing on one statement piece and letting the other pieces of your wardrobe gently fall back, in style:
