Baby Phat: Urban Class

Top tiers, lovely lace, and more fine fabrics dominated the Fall 2009 runways of Baby Phat.

I’ll admit, Kimora Lee Simmons is one of my favorite designers because she knows the true meaning of street couture. She merges the two styles together successfully, creating a hybrid of urban luxe looks. My favorite from the fall line were the ultra feminine tops of lace layered over soft satins and sheer silks, paired with imperfect jean. Perfect! This look is for the young and funky as well as the grown and sexy. And as always, Kimora adds her signature opulence in the form of furs and jewelry upon jewelry to each look. It wouldn’t be Baby Phat without that touch of class.

Stephen Burrows: Strictly Business

As you may have noticed in my Twitter feeds, this show was marred by a tragic ( but surely not fatal) accident. Some poor girl had her knee knocked out by the chair of an unwitting viewer as she was about to be seated. Unfortunately for the victim, she had to rest with paramedics–in the middle of the show–until she was stabilized enough to be removed from the venue. Well wishes 🙂

Naeem Khan: A Vanity Affair

In the details: The bejeweled decollete will be a big hit for spring AND Fall 09.

Leifsdottir: Welcome to the Dollhouse

I actually tripped upon this show on my way to Naeem Khan. Leifsdottir is the brainchild of Anthropologie design director Johanna Uurasjarvi. The collection for fall is based on the Mont St Michelle monastery and features ruffles, embellishments, and accessories that appear to be the clothing for the inhabitants of a gothic fortress.
