When I began revisiting this website, I started to thinking about all that has changed about me as I’ve grown from young, single, city girl in 2006 to a mature, wise woman and mother in 2015. While I love to indulge in the frivolity of everyday life and entertainment, I realized that I felt pulled to discuss things that carried a little more depth than what Beyoncé wore last night. I was never that shallow, but as I’ve grown, the little things have become less important to me. Below, I’ve picked out a few quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that speak to me in my newfound sense of self.

A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’

There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscious tells him it is right.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

If a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.

As you enjoy this day off, take some time to consider what it is that you do that is bigger than yourself, bigger than the everyday.
