I was elated to hear that Misty Copeland was given the position of principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, the first Black woman to do so. The fact that Copeland started dancing at 13, with a less than ideal ballet body, only to reach these heights is astounding, not only for little brown girl ballerinas, but dancers of every age, shape, and style, everywhere.
