…the latest onslaught of celebrity diarrhea of the mouth, which seems to rolling out full throttle as of late. Just when I thought that KKKramer incident was the verbal dystentery to end all verbal dysenteries, I come across this cerebral nugget from Kanye West in the Essence Magazine’s December 2006 issue:

“If it wasn’t for race mixing there’d be no video girls. Me and most of our friends like mutts a lot. Yeah, in the hood they call ‘em mutts”.

I can cite a telephone book full of idiotic ramblings from Kanye, but that’d just undermine this- which, incidentally, has been largely overlooked in the wake of that other incident. That being said, I can’t help but wonder if this is truly the case. Or would it still be regarded with a cursory glance because:

a) of our own unreconciled issues on what is black and beautiful?

b) of the surface prerequisite of today’s video vixen to have an ethnically-ambiguous (read: “mutt”-like) look?

c) Kanye is a black man making these observations about the industry that he currently thrives in?

Food for thought, folks…
