Trai Byers in Saks Magazine

I usually don’t post about male fashion on here, but Trai Bryers from the Fox dramatic series Empire is so damn fine. Peep his spread in the latest catalogue for Saks Fifth Avenue, where he helps plug the new Empire-inspired curated selection, launching at the start of the show’s new season.

Cookie Lyon Will Rule Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue goes to the hood. Or rather, Cookie brings the hood to Saks. I lol’d when I read that the bastion of luxury retail would curate a collection based on the hit ghetto-fabulous TV series Empire.  Saks’ edited narrative features the designs of Jimmy Choo, Alexis Bittar, Cushnie et Ochs and MCM to name a few. Not bad.

Now, we all know how Cookie dresses. It will be a feat of miracles that Saks can keep their windows from looking like an overwrought heap of knockoffs from Canal Street with a touch of 90’s era Lil Kim. The pieces look good from what I see in the press release. I only wish there was an Ode to BooBoo Kitty and Tiana, both opportunities to take advantage of Saks enviable contemporary collections. The windows will be up from September 10 through October 7 and coincides with the start of the new season for the show.

Cannes and a Cause: amfAR Gala 2015

AmfAR hosted it’s 22nd annual Cinema Against AIDS fundraiser on Thursday in Cap d’Antibes, France. The star-studded affair not only brings the stunners to the red carpet, but more importantly raises funds for AIDS research. The next gala will be in New York in June, and tickets start at $1,500.

#MetGala2015… Who Read The Invitation?

Every year I get a good chuckle out of everyone who comes out to the Costume Gala to slay for the camera, and not bother to participate in the costume party. And slay they did, this year with both Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian showing off their bodies to stunning, bedazzled effect. But the clear red-carpet winner here is Rihanna, whose richly embroidered fur gown, with extravagant train and elaborate golden headdress, makes her look like a queen straight off of a Ming Dynasty scroll. Indulge.

The 2015 theme was the Chinese influence on fashion.

2 Rihanna on theme

3Zendaya on theme

I’ll give Solange credit for the fan-like effect.

5 Pretty dress, stunning body, but Beyonce gets an F for not following directions

SJP completely on theme.

Alicia looks sweet, but not on theme. At all.

8Sorry Kerry, beautiful gown, wrong party.

So… who read the invitation to the Chinese-themed #MetGala this year?

Weekday Swag: Naomi + Jourdan for Burberry Spring 2015

I love seeing beautiful Black women unite and represent, without shade. The fact that Naomi Campbell, in all her iconic fierceness can share the screen with the young and graceful Jourdan Dunn, shows the world that Black women can get along AND shine together. This is how you become legend.

Rest in Peace, Oscar de la Renta

I am shocked this morning to learn of the sudden death of fashion giant Oscar de la Renta, who lost his long battle with cancer last night. The proud 82 year old Dominican has dressed the worlds most famous stars, dignitaries, and heads of state. I personally have a few Oscar pieces that I bring out for special occasions, as his pieces always hit the mark of feminine elegance. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed attending his fashion shows in New York, as everyone knew that his looks were sure to be red carpet standards.
Oscar de la Renta is a lion of the fashion world and he will be sadly missed.

Weddings! Weddings Everywhere! D-wade and Gabby

This was the weekend of wedding news. Heartfelt congratulations to Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union for tying the knot. The bride wore a Dennis Basso dress for the beautiful nuptials that were held at Chateau Artisan Castle in Miami. Stunning.

Since everyone wore white, I only cared to see the beautiful couple. Everybody else’s pics are all over Instagram and whatnot.

Across the pond, more details leaked about the Brangelina wedding taking place over two weeks ago.

Talk about stealth. This is one couple that I was pleased to see finally tie the knot. It was a good look.

And finally, even with a supreme diva in attendance, nobody knew or cared that Evan Ross tied the know with Jessica Simpson’s younger sister, Ashley. Nepotism in Hollywood doesn’t always translate to magazine covers, I see.

Black Is Beautiful: Iman, Naomi, Rihanna for Balmain Fall 2014

Balmin just got an extra shot of fierceness: Legendary models Iman and Naomi Campbell pose next to CFDA Fashion Icon Rihanna for the Fall 2014 Balmain campaign.
In more style news, Rihanna continues to slay in an eskimo-themed photo shoot for W Magazine. Indulge.
