Pretty Girl Rock: Rachel, Taraji, Kerry + More!

Kerry Washington was the clear beauty winner among many at the La Mer + Oceana World Ocean Day benefit to help promote Oceana’s commitment to protecting and preserving the world’s oceans.  Her face glowed with flawless makeup, and subtle touches of color. Actress Taraji Henson, singer Deborah Cox, designer Rachel Roy and stylist June Ambrose (sans signature turban) also joined the pretty girl crew in NYC, rocking their own visage-enhancing styles (seen right along with supermodel Molly Sims). World Oceans Day is June 8, 2011 and you can find out more about the initiative here.

June Ambrose’s exaggerated  Black and white tuxedo jacket is nicely accented with blue platform pumps, and daring red lipstick.

Rachel Roy’s frames nicely accent her face and elevate the look’s chic geek factor.

Traraji Henson is a ray of sunshine in a yellow shift accessorized with glowing skin.

StarStruck:Kelly, Melodie, Keri + More at Maxim 100 Party

The Celebs came out for Maxim’s Hot 100 party, and while the brand is dedicated to the overtly sexy, there were a few standouts and a few fashion misses on the red carpet.

Amber Rose showed up in a highly unflattering dress. What makes it unflattering? It may be too small, it highlights all the wrong places, and makes her look chunkier than she really is. A simple fix would be a body shaper, a slightly larger dress, and a hemline that graces the knees to take this look to a bombshell level.

Claudia Jordan, video vixen and former Celebrity Apprentice contestant wore spiked heels that were more remarkable than her dress.

Kali Hawk may have been dressed just a little too formally for this event.

Kelly Rowland was the perfect mix of casual and glam in a gray shift dress and gold platform pumps.

Keri Hilson showed off just the right amount of sex appeal in a cut out dress and yellow platform pumps. Her look was perfection.

Canadian singer Melanie Fiona does neon right by toning down the other elements of this outfit with a sheer black lace top and black platform pumps.

The jury is out on singer Melody Thornton’s dress. While she has the body for the dress, the velvet and green shade may not be the best choice.

StarStruck: Don’t Try This at Home

These picks are from last week, but I couldn’t resist posting them. Here are two looks that are extremely hard to pull off, and unless you have the body and star power of say, Nicki, or Ciara, I wouldn’t try them. Nicki was at a Samsung party last week in conflicting spandex stripes. I have seen this style on less flattering shapes in real life, and it does not work.

Ciara, seen here in California, has the body of a model, and while any other girl wearing this outfit may come of has tasteless, she somehow pulls off a pair of daisy dukes and cutoff jeans. Must be the money.

StarStruck: From Brazil, With Love

Ok, so I’m not in Brazil right now. But I did indulge in one hell of a trip there for my birthday two years ago. Ah, the memories. I’ve been taking my own vacation of sorts, doing other things besides blogging, while still staying in the loop of what the crazies–that would be the celebs– are doing. It’s been fun, it’s been quite sad, but overall just a plain relief to read what everyone else is gabbing about. Now fresh off a birthday trip to Miami, I’m ready to get down and dirty again.

Last week, I thought about posting Rihanna’s awful photo for her new slave-song “Russian Roulette”, but then again, the picture gives enough description. Un-flattering, un-chic, and un-edgy. Above all–sad. So I will move on to another one of my favorite fluffs–Mariah Carey– out in Rio, Brazil.

Now, if you’ve ever been to Brazil, you’d know that the pressure to wear tons of clothes is next to nil. Which is why Mrs. Cannon fits so perfectly on the scene in a tight, short snake skin-printed tube dress mini, and netted heels.  You can easily find one of these dresses at any back-street boutique without paying the hundreds (or maybe thousands) that Mariah probably paid. And don’t be surprised if she comes back with some fresh Rio fashion finds.

Leona Lewis don’t look too camera shy. Especially after being a stalking victim. Ah, the price of fame. This striped and cropped sweater is a smart take on the 80’s version that so many stars seem to be failing at. This look is a hit or miss. It’s all in the styling.

Is Alicia Keys posing for a magazine cover, or shielding herself from the winds at LAX airport. Either way, she is doing the leather jacket justice. Which reminds me-I need to pick up an updated version before I get caught off guard with a shot of cold weather. I already had to whip out a few mini jackets on unexpectedly chilly days.

This is the best picture yet. Nicole Richie went out to pick pumpkins at Mr. Bones Pumpkin patch in West Hollywood with her own little pumpkin, Harlow. While Nicole keeps it Boho in an ethnic printed shawl, ripped jeans, and Uggs, Harlow is just pure childhood sweetness in her little crop top. ♥

Morning Fabulosity: Michelle Williams

Due to some problems with Blogger, I was unable to post AT ALL for the past few days. So forgive me for the lack of (and lateness) of posts!

Michelle Williams brings out the glam in the latest issue of Random magazine in a series of stylish and flattering shots. We’ve seen Michelle looking fierce before, but these may be her best shots yet!

StarStruck: BabyPhat Show

The stars in the audience had to be the most unpretentious bunch of people that I’ve ever dealt with. Compared to the snobbery in other fashion shows, the baby Phat show was like one big family reunion! And Everybody was in the building for this one: Djimon sat front row and chatted with Russel Simmons (why can’t more black families be like that?!) Amber gladly posed for us, as well as plenty of other celebs. Everyone was just having a good time and danced out of the Roseland Ballroom to Michael Jackson’s PYT. The only bad note? Apparently DJ Cassisy didn’t get the hint that the music was way too loud when half the audience covered their ears in excruciating pain. It definitely dampened the show for me. The show ended with Kimora walking the runway with Ming Lee, Aoki Lee… and newest member, baby Kenzo!

VMA Fashion Style

The tents were missing some stars last night-they were all at the MTV VMA’s showing out. While most everyone played it safe, a few expected chicks went all out (cue Lady gaga). Alicia Keys stepped her game way up in a sequined number, and wowed the crowd with her explosive performance at the end of the show. Jennifer Lopez, who presented the Best Hip Hop Video award was a mess in a velvet sleeved dress-thingy that defied all sense of taste. My, my Ms. Lopez, how far you’ve fallen.

Alicia Keys: Best Dressed

Jennifer Lopez: Worst Dressed

Adrienne Bailon in a questionable yellow printed tunic and black booties
This blue batwing dress on Amerie is a flattering silhouette for anyone.
I didn’t care for the poof on Beyonce’s dress. It makes her appear as if she has a belly bulge when she turns in certain directions. It may have worked if it was poufed all the way around…
This graffiti-like cocktail dress on Cassie is fun!

Whose the star here? Amber shows Kanye up in a leopard one piece. The jury is out on this outfit. Though Amber has a great body, this unitard makes her look hefty and a little off. I would work better as a minidress.

This simple jumper on Keri Hilson is made haute with the graphic detailing on the shoulders.
The show was on all night for Lady Gaga. She changed 4 times during the show.

This leather detailed dress on Shakira is simple, sexy, and glamorous all at once. She kept the look from becoming too vampy by keep her accessories sleek and simple.

Solange was interesting in a sculptural take on the little black dress. Again, the simplification of the accessories make the dress stand out even more.

StarStruck: Non-Fashion Week Edition

Not everyone has been in the tents watching next spring’s fashions; some celebs have been out and about doing charity events, or just hanging out in different parts of the globe:

Kim Kardashian was at The Brent Shapiro Foundation Summer Spectacular on Saturday. The dress is classic and the turquoise showpiece necklace is stunning!

Mariah Carey looked fantastic in a simple one shouldered dress. This is the classic Mariah that we all fell in love with. There’s alot of Oscar buzz surrounding Precious, the movie based on the book PUSH by writer Sapphyre. Monique’s perfromance, from what I saw, is terrifying.

Witness the triple-threat of Oprah, Mariah, and Mary J. Blige at the premier.
Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon was at the Pink Party benefiting Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Research Institute in Santa Monica on Saturday.

StarStruck: A few ‘Bad’ Chicks

The ladies came out last night for the premier of Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself in Manhattan. Everyone had their choice color, as seen with the candy-coated options.
DJ Egypt burst onto the scene in this playful party dress. The white and grey t-straps are a nice contrast.

Mary J Blige stunned in a chic white sheath. The bold shoulders and v-neck thoroughly modernize this classic look. Finish off with a pair of snakeskin platforms and metallic clutch, and this look is dead-on!

The sculptural earrings add another sophisticated touch to the look

Oscar-nominee Tarji P. Henson was a vixen in this black corseted cocktail dress. The frills along the bust add to it’s kittenish appeal.

VJ Free simplifies her look in black denim, a silk jacket, and strappy heels with a dash of purple color.

The usually outrageous Wendy Williams is surprisingly demure in a one-sleeved blue gown, and sleek toned down hair. This look really works for her.

StarStruck: AmberLove, Pregger Fab+ More!

Amber shows Kanye West some love while shopping at Intermix

This V-neck coral dress is just the right amount of sexy, with a smart hemline and spiky strappy heels.

Kourtney Kardashian hangs out on Miami Beach on Friday (above) and again on Sunday looking relaxed and happy. While the outfit above may be a bit questionable (black knee-high boots in Miami? Cutoffs with the pockets hanging oyr? Very Britney Spears) On the other hand, who said that horizontal stripes make you look wider? This striped blouse (below) is perfectly complimentary.
Mya looked fabulous at a performance in Atlantic City. A plain grey bootie may have been a better match for this shiny grey dress; the details in the tan boots and the contrasting color distract from the subtle beauty of the dress.
