Artness: T.S. Abe

I have been wanting to do a post on UK artist T.S Abe for the longest. Her pencil drawings are intricate, entrancing, and full of depth of emotion. While her portrait of Erykah Badu likely draws the most attention, all of Abe’s work deserves a lingering eye. Have a peek

and check out more of her work here.

Lavish Music Picks: TESS

I couldn’t help but do another post on an artist from the Afro Punk Fest because THIS IS THE WOMAN I was looking for!

Her name is Tess, and when I heard the guitar riff in her song Haunted, I was an instant fan. Listen to Haunted

and then read more about this awesome artist here.

Lavish Music Picks: Bad Rabbits

I was looking for another band from the  Afro Punk festival festival and tripped up on this fantastic cover of Walkin’ on the Moon by The Dream, re-done to perfection by punk band Bad Rabbits. It’s better than the original, in my opinion. There’s something grown and sexy about it. Enjoy!

What I’m Doing This Weekend

There are 50 million things happening this weekend and I want to do them all. Too bad there are only 48 hours in a weekend. Two events are shows that end on Saturday! But here are some of the things I wish I could cram into the penultimate week of August:
(Above) Détournement: A Sign of the Times at Jonathan LeVine gallery in Chelsea
The AfroPunk Fest in Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn
For Baby Diva: Pistachio, A Brooklyn Girl Made of Trash (info here)
Dancing in the Park in Harlem
And the Mobile Shakespeare Unit by the Public Theater, featuring Richard III

Artness: Blu Evolution

Watch this video of Italian graffiti artist Blue when you have 10 minutes of uninterrupted time to spare. It is a time-lapsed masterpiece with a quirkly take on the food chain. I was entranced. More on the artists here.
