Who’s Paying this Guy?

No two words have more severely damaged the Barack Obama’s campaign than Jeremiah Wright. What’s up with this guy? Honestly, I cannot say that Wright’s statements are completely wrong and should be rejected by Obama’s campaign but I can agree that they are inflammatory and devise.

The basic tenant of Christianity is love. The bible says we are to speak the truth in love. Am I saying Jeremiah Wright should lie about his personal convictions regarding race in the United States: not at all?

In childhood when I had a fever very often I did not want to take the digesting medicine. Did I get my mouth pried open and the medicine shoved in my mouth? No! My mother or grandmother got some honey and the honey on the spoon with the medicine so I could receive the medication that was good while the bad taste was masked. You see where I’m going with this?

The optimist in me says as a man Jeremiah Wright was compelled defend his flock and personal character and he had no intention of doing this type of damage to the Obama campaign. However, my cynic would love to see who is depositing checks in his bank account.

Pastor Wright if you believe Barack Obama is a formidable presidential candidate please stop talking to the press. Your silence is golden.

Religion’s New Dawn

It’s a sad day when a political candidate has to resort to shaming and bad-mouthing his former church leader for the sake of his own political gain. I am disturbed by Obama’s comments regarding Reverend Wright, and I believe that it is a subtle ploy by the shady Clintons to hit Obama just as he enters North Carolina. How fitting that this scandal, in which Rev. Wright addresses th National Press Club, would break in the Bible Belt of America, where Obama had been almost guaranteed a win in North Carolina. I am upset at Obama, AND the Clintons. The Clintons for underhandedly orchestrating this mess, and Obama, for falling for it, hook, line, and sinker. And who knows if all this will turn Wright and his followers against Obama?

When our church leaders disrupt our own agenda, do we drag them into the mud, and disgrace them? Or do we recognize that the forum for spiritual discussion holds no place in the political arena?

Last month on CNN, my pastor was interviewed in response to the Reverend Wright issue. Take a look at what he has to say here.

Suzanne Boyd holds a particular place in my heart. Not only was she my boss at Suede, her style, discerning taste, and broad wisdom inspired me to start Lavish when it was shut down. There was nothing like going to work everyday to work with some of the most stylish, witty, most savvy Black women. Essence and Suede were like two worlds. While I respected Essence, one could always tell if you were a Suede chick. Your swagger, effortless cool, hipster chic were instantly recognized when you walked into the Essence offices. It was truly one of my favorite jobs, and Suzanne had that vision that few people in the industry were willing to risk.
A few months back, Ms. Boyd was featured on O at Home, showing off her fashionable house. Take a peek, if not to be a voyeur, then for inspiration.
